Improve brain function by manipulating gut 

The Hague, 14 October 2020 – The Brain Foundation (de Hersenstichting) granted 1 million euro to UMC Groningen,Wageningen University and Research en Winclove Probiotics for research on how the gut can be manipulated to fight brain diseases. In this research the gut of people with Parkinson, Alzheimer’s Disease, Schizophrenia and biopolar disorders are being manipulated via a natural way. The aim is to lower the disease related symptoms and the mental health. If the project is successfull almost half a million Dutch people with a brain disease will directly benefit from it.  One million euro is the highest amount the foundation ever granted to a research project.
